Former Pakistan cricketer and ex-chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja, seized the moment for some ‘humour’ while commentating on the third and final Test match between Pakistan and England in Rawalpindi.
During the match, he made an uncalled for joke about India’s recent low score in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.
India experienced a dramatic batting collapse in their first innings of the first test against New Zealand, getting bowled out for just 46 runs, which is their lowest Test total on home soil. Their all-time lowest score in Test cricket remains the notorious 36 runs against Australia.
Ramiz Raja, known for the occasional ‘banter’ on commentary, remarked, “Michael Atherton informed me that India was bowled out for 46 runs, so I decided to make that my ringtone.”
However, despite this poor performance, India bounced back in the second innings, posting a commendable total of 462 runs, thanks to Sarfaraz Khan’s impressive 150 and Rishabh Pant’s spirited 99. However, New Zealand’s substantial first-innings lead of 402, bolstered by a century from Rachin Ravindra and 91 from Devon Conway, ultimately ensured their victory in the match.
New Zealand’s victory was significant as it marked only their third Test win ever in India and their first in 36 years, making it a historic moment in the ongoing rivalry between the two teams.
