Here’s How Pakistan Can Still Qualify for World Test Championship Final

Pakistan Cricket Team is doing Pakistan cricket team things as their dream of playing the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord’s was kept alive by their 2-1 test series win over England.

Their chances of booking their tickets to England are slim, but that has not stopped this team from doing the improbable many times before. Shan Masood’s men will need plenty of luck and help from other teams if they are to progress but they still have a shot.

Here is what needs to happen for Pakistan to make the WTC Final.

First and foremost, Pakistan needs to win all its remaining 4 games. The two matches coming up against South Africa will test their resolve the most, the two against West Indies at home next year are more manageable.

If all that happens Pakistan’s points percentage would be 52.38 and with a lot of luck on their corner, could see them climb to second on the table setting up a mouthwatering clash with India in the final.

Next is the tricky part. Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa all need to drop a certain number of games and series in order for Pakistan to progress.

New Zealand would need to lose two of their remaining matches or secure only three out of five wins.

South Africa: (If Pakistan defeats them 2-0) would need to lose one additional match out of their other three to fall below Pakistan’s percentage.

Sri Lanka: must win no more than two of their remaining games.

Australia: would need to win only four of their remaining seven fixtures to finish below Pakistan.

Ideally, Pakistan needs the following results:

  • India vs New Zealand: 2-1 in India’s favor
  • Bangladesh vs. South Africa: 2-0 to South Africa
  • Australia vs. India: 3-2 in India’s favor
  • New Zealand vs. England: New Zealand to win 2-1
  • South Africa vs. Sri Lanka: South Africa to win 1-0
  • Sri Lanka vs. Australia: 1-0 in Sri Lanka’s favor

Pakistan would also benefit if New Zealand fails to sweep India and loses twice to England. However, any upset, like New Zealand beating India 3-0 ( which is very likely)could derail Pakistan’s chances.

Despite the odds heavily stacked against them, Pakistan is still kicking in the competition. Their first test against the Proteas could either clear up this maelstrom surrounding the team or grow the voices of miracles even louder.
