Oppo Find X8 Series Launched With Top-Tier Cameras and New AI Features

Oppo has finally unveiled its highly anticipated Find X8 flagship series in China, positioning them as potential top contenders for phone of the year. The redesigned lineup features the compact Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro with massively improved cameras and the new premium Dimensity chip.

Design and Display

The vanilla Find X8 boasts a flat display panel sized 6.59 inches diagonally with 1080p resolution and a dynamic 1-120Hz refresh rate thanks to its LTPO OLED screen. Meanwhile, the Find X8 Pro sports a slightly larger 6.78-inch LTPO OLED, also with 1080p resolution and a 1-120Hz refresh rate. The Pro model distinguishes itself with a unique “micro-quad-curved” display, appearing flat while subtly curving on all four edges.

Both Find X8 models offer impressive brightness, reaching 1,600 nits globally and up to 4,500 nits locally for HDR content. They also include integrated optical fingerprint scanners instead of ultrasonic sensors.

Internals and Software

The Find X8 and X8 Pro are the first phones to come with MediaTek’s newly announced Dimensity 9400 flagship chipset. Obviously, this translates to top-tier performance in both day-to-day tasks and gaming. To help sustain longer gaming sessions, Oppo has also incorporated a new cooling system with three elements: a graphite layer, a vapor chamber, and thermal conductive gel, all strategically integrated directly into the motherboard.

The Chinese models will boast ColorOS 15 while the global variants will come with the usual Oxygen OS 15 which comes with a load of new AI features and a redesigned look. Both versions will be based on the latest Android 15 OS.

Cameras

The camera system is one of the most impressive aspects of the Find X8 duo.

The Find X8’s main camera setup is headlined by a 50MP primary sensor from Sony (LYT-700), measuring 1/1.56″ with a 24mm equivalent lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). Complementing this is a 50MP ultrawide camera with Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5 sensor, featuring a 15mm lens with autofocus.

Zoom capabilities come from a 3x periscope telephoto lens, equipped with a 73mm equivalent IMX882 sensor (1/1.95″) and OIS. This periscope module employs a space-efficient triple prism design, as shown in the image above.

The Find X8 Pro elevates the photography experience further with its larger chassis accommodating an additional 50MP periscope lens, capable of 6x optical zoom. This secondary telephoto camera features an IMX858 sensor (1/2.51″) with an f/4.3 aperture and OIS. While retaining the same 50MP 3x telephoto and ultrawide modules from its smaller sibling, the Pro variant upgrades the main camera with a more substantial 1/1.4″ LYT-808 50MP sensor.

Exclusive to the Pro model is a dedicated camera button called the “Quick Button” that can load up the camera with a double tap. It also works as a shutter button and can control zoom as well, similar to Apple’s new Camera Control.

Battery and Pricing

Power management differs between the two models, with the Find X8 featuring a 5,630 mAh silicon-carbon battery, while its Pro counterpart houses a more capacious 5,910 mAh unit. Both devices support identical charging capabilities: 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The standard Find X8 arrives in four distinctive colorways: Starfield Black, Floating Light White, Chasing Wind Blue, and Bubble Pink. Market pricing begins at $590 in China for the 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage configuration, reaching $700 for the premium 16 GB RAM/512 GB storage variant.

For the Find X8 Pro, Oppo offers three color options: Hoshino Black, Cloud White, and Sky Blue. The entry-level 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage model starts at $745. The flagship configuration, priced at $955, boasts 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage, with the additional benefit of satellite communication.

Without getting into specifics, Oppo has confirmed that these phones will reach the global market “soon.” As for the Find X8 Ultra, that is likely coming sometime in Q1 2025, but there is no confirmation yet.
