Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the new white-ball captain and vice-captain of the national side. The new captain will start their duties from the upcoming tour of limited-overs tour of Australia.
Pakistan’s long-standing wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Rizwan has been officially announced as the limited-overs captain while all-rounder Salman Ali Agha will be his deputy.
Earlier, Pakistan announced their squads for the upcoming tours of Australia and Zimbabwe. Rizwan is part of the ODIs squad of both the tours while he will lead the side in the T20Is in Australia as well. However, the star wicket-keeper batter is not part of the T20I squad against Zimbabwe and hence Salman Ali Agha will lead the T20I side in his absence.
Rizwan was seen as the ideal candidate to the lead the side ever since former captain, Babar Azam resigned from his duties earlier in the month. Babar’s second tenure as Pakistan’s white-ball captain was heavily criticized after Pakistan suffered humiliating defeats in the T20 World Cup and other poor results in bilateral series.
Rizwan will be hoping that he can rally his troops and carry Pakistan’s winning momentum from the red-ball side into the limited-overs format.
