OnePlus Open 2/Oppo Find N5 to Join The Slim Foldable Hype

Folding phones are moving towards slimmer designs every generation, a trend popularized by Honor’s Magic V series. OnePlus and Oppo’s upcoming foldables will also hop on this trend next year with slimmer and larger devices.

The news comes from the notable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, who claims that the OnePlus Open 2 will be as slim as 10mm when unfolded and will also be larger than before. Just like its predecessor, the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N5, which will venture into the international market, unlike its Oppo variant.

The tipster adds that the OnePlus Open 2 should have a large circular main camera, though its design remains unconfirmed. This camera island will include a triple shooter setup labeled with Hasselblad. There will be a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3x periscope zoom unit, and a 50MP ultrawide sensor.

Battery capacity is set to be upgraded to 5,700 mAh up from 4,805 mAh on the previous model. Not only that, but the OnePlus Open 2 will also bring wireless charging support for the first time. Hopefully, this does not translate into a price hike.

Under the hood, the device will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which comes as no surprise given the last model’s flagship status. Industry sources suggest a launch window between January and March of next year, a timeline that could coincide with the release of the Find N5. The Find N5 is expected to debut in China before it reaches the global market as OnePlus Open 2.
