Lahori Businessman Rewards Rs.1 Million to Pakistan Hockey Player

Pakistan Hockey forward Hannan Shahid received a substantial cheque in recognition of his exceptional performances at the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy as part of an event which was organized by Lahori businessman Tahir Saeed Butt to honor Shahid.

The forward emphasized that support from private sectors for national athletes is crucial, saying “Receiving rewards boosts motivation and confidence. I will strive to contribute to Pakistan’s success by playing even better in future competitions.”

Shahid mentioned that hockey is a family sport for him, and he aims to help the Pakistani team win by performing well in every match. He state that his next objective is to secure the Junior World Cup and bring it home to Pakistan and that he believes there is still ample time for preparation.

Having already represented Pakistan in two World Cups, the 19 year old forward expressed his desire to lead the team if he is selected once again.

Businessman Tahir Saeed Butt stated that hockey had brought global recognition to Pakistan. He expressed pride in past players and optimism for young talents like Hannan Shahid, who he believes will elevate Pakistan Hockey. Butt praised Shahid’s impressive performances in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy and previous competitions, noting that watching him play is a delight.

He pointed out that like cricketers often receive rewards for their achievements, hockey, being the national sport, deserves similar support at the private level to enhance youth performance. Butt acknowledged that Hannan Shahid and his family had made significant contributions to Pakistan Hockey, urging recognition for such heroes.
