Karachi Breaks 57-Year-Old Record for Hottest Night in October

Karachi recently witnessed record-breaking nighttime temperatures this October, setting new milestones in the city’s climate history. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) revealed that October’s minimum average temperature hit 30.9 degrees Celsius, surpassing a 57-year-old record of 30.6 degrees set in 1967.

In addition to this overall temperature rise, the city’s night temperatures reached 26.3 degrees Celsius last month, marking an increase from last year’s 25.7 degrees. The PMD noted that October’s temperatures were 0.6 degrees above average, indicating a warming trend.

Tomorrow, Karachi’s outskirts may see fog in the early hours due to the influx of warm, dry winds from Balochistan. According to the PMD’s Early Warning Centre, these winds are set to impact visibility briefly in the mornings as they circulate through the city.

Karachi’s atmosphere is expected to stay warm and humid, with temperatures predicted to reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. Other parts of Sindh are also forecasted to experience similar hot and dry conditions.

The PMD recently clarified that there’s no imminent threat of a heatwave, as heatwave criteria include a halt in sea breezes for three consecutive days, with daytime temperatures at 40 degrees and humidity over 60 percent. Coastal breezes are likely to return by evening, with humidity peaking in the morning and easing by afternoon.
