BYD Sold Over 500,000 Cars in October 2024 Alone

BYD saw strong sales growth in October, delivering 500,526 electric passenger vehicles, marking a 66% increase from 301,095 units in October of the previous year. This figure also represents a 20% increase over September’s sales of 417,603 units.

From January to October 2024, BYD sold 3,236,927 electric vehicles, a 36% increase over the same period last year. BYD’s 2024 target is to reach 3.6 million vehicle sales, though rumors of raising the target to 4 million were denied by the company.

BYD’s sales consist of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), covering all-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). BYD stopped selling purely internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in April 2022. October’s total NEV sales, including commercial vehicles, reached 502,657 units, while production reached 536,134 units, bringing cumulative 2024 production to 3,283,439 units.

BYD’s international sales of NEVs reached 31,192 units, with 28,012 units already exported. For October, BYD’s battery installations for EVs and energy storage amounted to 21.018 GWh, with a year-to-date capacity of 148.738 GWh.

The company’s all-electric vehicle share dropped slightly to 37.9% of October sales, while plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) rose to 62.1%. BYD sold 189,614 BEVs and 310,912 PHEVs in October, with PHEV sales continuing to lead over BEVs since February.
