‘Nobody’s going to do it for You’: Shoaib Malik Advises Players on Mental Health

Former captain of the Pakistan cricket team Shoaib Malik has offered sage advice to young cricketers on how to take care of their mental health in today’s interconnected world. 

Speaking to ProPakisani’s Podcast How Does it Work? Shoaib Malik provided insight into building a strong mental character. He said,

Personally, I never felt that (mental pressure). I did think I should take a break many times because I was trying everything and nothing was happening.  That is when you need to decide you need a break.

“You cannot control what the people are saying. You can only control what you can do. So focus on that. That will help your life out massively,” he added. “When someone trolls you, it does hurt but it should not affect your health.”

He went on to say, “Those who like you will always like you, and those who don’t will never. No one is gonna help you, you need to do it yourself.”

Malik faced many critics in his long career but managed to carve out a name for himself despite all the noise which should be a perfect example for the up-and-coming cricketers.

He was recently handed the mentorship duties in the domestic circuit which give the younger players a perfect platform to learn from the man who has reached the very pinnacle of cricket.
