The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the launch of a Women’s Champions Trophy, set for 2027, marking a new chapter in the global women’s cricket calendar.
This upcoming cycle, which kicks off with the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025 will see an ICC tournament take place each year including the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026, the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, and another Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028.
Alongside the new tournament, the ICC also revealed the 2025-29 Future Tour Programme (FTP), laying out the fixtures for the fourth edition of the ICC Women’s Championship. The cycle will culminate in the 2029 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup and has been expanded to feature 11 teams with Zimbabwe making their tournament debut.
Under the Women’s Championship guidelines, each team will compete against eight opponents across four home and four away series, with a total of 132 ODIs to be played in 44 series and each series consisting of three matches.
In an effort to bolster preparations for ICC events, members have agreed to introduce tri-series tournaments as well. England will host a tri-series featuring India and New Zealand ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026, while Ireland will welcome Pakistan and West Indies. Additional tri-series are planned in Sri Lanka and West Indies in 2027 and 2028, with further details to come.
The ICC’s latest developments are aimed at taking a significant step forward in the growth and global reach of women’s cricket, ensuring a packed schedule and expanded opportunities for competition at the highest level.
