India, Turkey Among Official Bidders to Host 2036 Summer Olympics

India, Turkey, Indonesia, and Chile have officially submitted their bids to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, also known as the Games of the XXXVI Olympiad.

India

India, which had previously shown interest in hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics, has officially submitted a “Letter of Intent” to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for both the Olympics and Paralympics. The consultancy identified 22 locations suitable for Olympic events. Central to India’s bid is the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave (SVPSE) in Ahmedabad.

Indonesia 

Indonesia’s bid for the 2036 Olympics has gained momentum following an offer reportedly extended by IOC President Thomas Bach. The country is considering several locations, including Nusantara, Jakarta, Bali, Jakabaring in Palembang, and Medan in North Sumatra.

Turkey

Istanbul is also in the running, with a strategic plan to host the 2036 Olympics. The city is already set to host the 2025 European Para Youth Games and the 2027 European Games, and it is bidding for the 2027 European Para Championships. If successful, Istanbul would become the first city in the Middle East to host the Olympic Games, marking a historic achievement for the region.

Chile

With Santiago at the forefront, is actively pursuing its Olympic ambitions. Harold Mayne-Nicholls, CEO of the 2023 Pan American Games Organizing Committee, has confirmed that discussions are underway with the IOC. Chile’s Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, has highlighted Santiago’s robust infrastructure, noting the need for enhancements such as extending the Santiago Metro to the international airport and upgrading existing venues to meet IOC standards.
