The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally declined to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, citing ongoing security concerns. According to sources, BCCI has already informed ICC of its decision and requested that India’s matches in the tournament be relocated to Dubai, underscoring long-standing apprehensions about playing in Pakistan.
The Champions Trophy is set to make its return in 2025 after an eight-year hiatus, with Pakistan hosting its first ICC tournament since the 1996 ODI World Cup but India’s participation was always the topic of discussion for everyone involved.
A BCCI insider commented on the decision: “This has been our stance, and there is no reason to change it. We have written to the PCB, requesting that our games be shifted to Dubai.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet issued an official response to the BCCI’s request, though initial reports suggest they may consider adjustments if necessary. PCB already presented several solutions to ICC and BCCI to get out of the logjam but all the previous proposals have been rejected.
PCB officials have clarified that no hybrid model is currently under active consideration which could complicate things further.
Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series in over a decade but have faced off in ICC-sanctioned competitions. Pakistan even travelled to India for the ODI World Cup and there was hope that India would return the favor.
An ICC delegation is visiting Pakistan to plot the moves going forward. There are reports that the schedule of the 2025 Champions Trophy was also set to be announced soon but BCCI has thrown a wrench into those plans.
The tournament is slated to be held from February 19th to March 9th next year.
