Lahore Starts Closing Markets by 8 PM as Smog Worsens

To address the worsening smog situation, the Lahore District Administration has ordered the early closure of all markets in the city. Effective from November 11 until November 17, all shops and commercial businesses must close by 8 p.m. each evening.

This move, aimed at reducing pollution and improving air quality, comes in response to hazardous smog levels affecting the health of Lahore’s residents.

According to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the early closure applies to shops, restaurants, and other businesses, with a strict ban on late-night outdoor dining, events, and gatherings during this period. However, certain essential services, including petrol stations, pharmacies, medical stores, laboratories, bakeries, and poultry shops, will be allowed to remain open.

Furthermore, major departmental and grocery stores providing essential goods are exempt from the 8 p.m. closure. The district administration has coordinated with environmental and other relevant agencies to implement further measures aimed at controlling smog levels.
