Pakistan cricket team’s interim white-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has criticized the promoters for ignoring his side’s ODI series against Australia.
The visitors recently ended their 22-year wait for a series win down under after beating Australia 2-1 in the ODI series but many former players and pundits were left unimpressed by the lack of fanfare surrounding the milestone.
Cricket Australia also made the controversial decision of resting its key players in the deciding ODI which did not sit well with their former captain Michael Clarke.
Without the presence of their more seasoned counterparts, Australia offered little in the deciding contest as they succumbed to an 8-wicket defeat, their first home series defeat since 2019. The Pakistan-Australia series also featured a lack of crowd which Gillespie has attributed to CA’s focus on the upcoming tour of India.
Gillespie stated,
To be honest, I pretty much saw no promotion of our one-day series by Cricket Australia, which was a bit of a surprise. It’s pretty obvious that they’re prioritizing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India because I saw no promotion of this series.
The Border-Gavaskar carries a lot of significance for both as the results could determine who among the two plays the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s.
With both India and Australia out of sorts, the results are anyone’s guess. The two will square off just three days after the Aussies’ T20 series against Pakistan concludes, meaning their T20 squad also comprises inexperienced talents.
Despite the lack of publicity, Pakistani fans have livened up the atmosphere and will continue to do so in the upcoming three-game series. The first of the three T20Is will be played on November 14th, and Pakistan is the favorite to script another historic win.
