The district of Nankana Sahib will observe a local holiday on November 15 in celebration of the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the revered founder of Sikhism.
This announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Taslim Akhtar Rao, who issued a notification confirming the public holiday across the district.
Celebrations are scheduled to take place from November 13 to 16, drawing thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across Pakistan and abroad to Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak.
Preparations are in full swing, with the district administration coordinating with various agencies to ensure the comfort and security of all attendees, particularly the large number of international visitors expected.
In preparation for the event, Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora and Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal visited Nankana Sahib last week. Their visit focused on reviewing security arrangements at key entry and exit points within the city.
During their inspection, they received detailed briefings from Deputy Commissioner Rao and District Police Officer Syed Nadeem Abbas. Measures to enhance security and streamline the movement of pilgrims were discussed, with officials stressing the importance of a smooth and respectful experience for all visitors during the anniversary celebrations at Gurdwara Janam Asthan.
