LG Display has unveiled a groundbreaking prototype display that starts at 12 inches but stretches effortlessly to 18 inches with no damage, no interruptions, and seamless expansion.
It greatly outshines LG’s 2022 model which stretched from 12 to 14 inches with a 120% stretch factor. The latest prototype boasts an impressive 150% stretch capability, making it more than twice as flexible.
LG’s stretchable display flaunts a 100ppi pixel density (at its original 12-inch size) and features a full RGB color range. This incredible elasticity stems from advanced wiring and a unique silicon substrate. The display’s micro-LEDs, each smaller than 40µm, ensure durability and stunning visuals. LG claims that even after 10,000 stretches, the display remains as good as new.
Potential applications can be used in car dashboards and even firefighters’ uniforms. It can completely transform wearable tech, fashion, and automotive interfaces.
In foldable phones, LG stretchable displays could eliminate ugly creases, offering a smoother and more robust experience. Imagine typing on an on-screen keyboard where keys physically pop up, adding a tactile sensation. LG’s car display demo already demonstrates this fascinating concept.

As mentioned earlier this is only a prototype, we may see companies start using this display within a year.
