Pakistan to Witness Final Supermoon of 2024 Tonight

The last supermoon of 2024 will illuminate the skies of Pakistan tonight, reaching its peak visibility at 2:28 am.

Renowned astronomer Dr Javed Iqbal explained that a supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest approach to Earth during its elliptical orbit, making it appear significantly larger and brighter than usual.

Dr Iqbal elaborated that during a supermoon, the distance between the Earth and the Moon reduces to approximately 360,378 km, compared to the average 384,400 km. This proximity causes the moon to appear 14% larger and 30% brighter, creating a striking celestial display.

This supermoon aligns with a meteor shower, offering a rare dual celestial event. The American Meteor Society reports that the moon will be at its brightest at 2:29 am on Saturday, positioned about 225,000 miles from Earth. Simultaneously, meteors will streak across the sky in notable numbers, amplifying the spectacle.

The combination of the supermoon and meteor shower promises a breathtaking night for stargazers. Observers are advised to find clear, dark skies to fully enjoy this unforgettable cosmic event.
