Punjab University Postpones Exams Due to Smog

The Punjab University has announced the postponement of all scheduled exams due to worsening smog conditions in the city.

University officials assured students that a revised exam schedule will be announced soon. Meanwhile, all affiliated colleges have been directed to shift to online classes to maintain academic continuity.

Punjab Government Declares Health Emergency

In response to the escalating smog crisis, the Punjab government has implemented several emergency measures, including declaring a health emergency in Lahore and Multan.

Key Measures to Combat Smog

The government announced the following actions to address the situation:

• Closure of Brick Kilns and Furnace Plants: All brick kilns and furnace-based industries in Lahore and Multan have been shut down starting Friday to reduce emissions.
• Ban on Heavy Traffic: Entry of heavy vehicles into Lahore and Multan has been completely banned.
• Potential Lockdown: A full lockdown may be imposed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if the air quality does not improve by Wednesday.
• Restricted Restaurant Operations: Dining at restaurants will only be allowed until 4 PM. Takeaway services will be permitted until 8 PM, after which all restaurants must close.

• Extended Holidays and Online Classes: Educational institutions across Punjab, except Murree, will remain closed until November 24 and must transition to online learning.
• Halt on Construction Activities: All construction work in Lahore and Multan has been banned, except for national-level projects.
• Extended Hospital Services: Holidays for doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff have been canceled, and hospital OPDs will now operate until 8 PM.

These measures aim to curb pollution levels and protect public health as the smog crisis continues to affect daily life in Punjab.
