Maulana Tariq Jamil Rips Apart Fatwa Against VPNs on TV

Renowned Pakistani religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel has termed the latest declaration/fatwa of the Council of Islamic Ideology against virtual private networks (VPNs) as a wrong decision and a ‘mental problem’.

“I don’t know which Sharai council has given the fatwa. By this logic, mobile phones are also prohibited because there is so much to see without a VPN. In my opinion, this fatwa isn’t right,” he said while talking to a private news channel.

He further said, “This is a mental problem. In my opinion, this isn’t right”.

The scholar’s remarks come after the Council of Islamic Ideology on Friday declared the use of VPNs as un-Islamic.

The council said using VPNs to view “immoral or illegal content” is against Sharia and could lead to the “spread of evil”.

It said, “The state’s move to ban VPNs is commendable, therefore, we support and appreciate these steps”.

It bears mentioning that multiple internet users across Pakistan reported on Friday night that they were experiencing restricted access to VPNs, alongside poor internet connectivity. The federal government has set a deadline of November 30, 2024, for individuals/entities to register their VPNs to avoid restricted usage.

  • IiC works only when govt needs, this is not that Islamic Ideology Council that works for the cause of Islam, there are many laws passed by govt which are against Islamic Shariah but this Council is silent, why?

  • His own credibility is in question from years. Arrogant and he not the man of his word. Especially his hypocrisy when according to his own past statements junaid stand gustakh but he saved the wealthy person.

    • In my opinion he is far much better than most of our scholars in Pakistan. And before pointing out on others, why don’t you look in to yourself and improve rather than commenting on someone who is saying something logic on this topic

      • You people obey political leaders more than Islam. Why don’t you dare for Islam to accept the fact that he went against his own statement to protect a wealthy person? How low people live you can go with double standards.

    • Double standards or not, im mostly concerned with what he’s saying right now. nobody is free from faults. everybody is human, not prophets. But this doesn’t absolve him of his double standards tho.
What he’s saying here is not wrong. Apas me hi larte rehte hum saare or humara upr waale chup chaap kaam kr jaate. ATA bill aya jo ke freedom k khilaf hai or koi bi uthaya ja skta hai, kisi ne kuch bola ? nhi, jb koi apka jaanne wala uthaya jayega to uss time bhi yehi kehna k “apne aap ko dekhein pehle”. khud kuch nhi krna, bus ya to “allah malik hai” ya “kismat aesi hai”.

  • Why is he speaking out after days when the whole world is making fun of this so called fetwa? If there is politics behind it he should be ashamed of himself otherwise, atleast somebody said something….

  • dawn report where cii chairman clarifies that VPNs rarely used for good, so it haram, why don’t they say that the money Pakistan is borrowing from world is also haram(riba), in other words he means using x is also haram, because it’s rarely used for good, so all the other soical media platforms are also haram based on his calrification, anyone can find haram content, music is also haram, why do his phone rings with music to notify him
