Punjab Rolls Out E-Taxis to Combat Air Pollution

The Punjab government has launched a new initiative aimed at tackling air pollution and creating job opportunities for the unemployed.

The plan includes the introduction of an e-taxi service, which will provide online taxi drivers with electric vehicles at attractive rates. This initiative aims to reduce pollution while offering financial benefits to the drivers.

Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan shared details of the scheme, revealing that a significant number of online taxis will be converted to electric vehicles (EVs). These EVs will be available to drivers either through down payments or easy installment plans, making it more accessible for them to participate.

Minister Khan emphasized that the shift to electric taxis will not only help decrease harmful emissions but will also be economically advantageous for drivers. According to studies, drivers could save up to 40% on fuel costs by switching to electric vehicles.

This program was introduced to meet the rising demand for online taxi services in Punjab and to address the increasing pollution in urban areas, particularly in Lahore.

The transition to electric taxis will provide multiple benefits: a cleaner environment, lower fuel costs, and better economic prospects for the drivers. Moreover, the scheme is expected to create numerous job opportunities for those currently unemployed.
