Pakistan Boxing Federation Re-elects President

Khalid Mahmood and retired Lt. Col. Mohammad Nasir Ijaz Tung have been re-elected as the President and Secretary General, respectively, of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) for the 2025-2029 term.

The Pakistan Boxing Federation General Council met at the Olympic House on Saturday, making significant decisions, including disaffiliation from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). The PSB recently introduced amendments to its constitution, which the PBF deemed an infringement on its autonomy. In response, the council approved constitutional amendments and passed a resolution to sever ties with the PSB.

Key Actions Approved by the Council
Amendments to the PBF constitution
Resolution for PSB disaffiliation
Authorisation for leadership to act

This resolution aligns with recommendations made by the Executive Committee on November 24, empowering the PBF leadership — Chairperson, President, and Secretary General — to implement the decision.

The council received an update on the federation’s international standing:

  • The PBF has reaffirmed its status as a founding member of Asian Boxing, recognised by World Boxing.
  • Plans are underway for the PBF to gradually withdraw from other affiliations, ensuring its participation in the Olympic Boxing program remains intact.

New Leadership Appointment

Mrs. Ishrat Ashraf was elected as the Chairperson of the Pakistan Boxing Federation, marking another key leadership development.

With Khalid Mahmood and Lt. Col. Nasir Tung at the helm, the PBF aims to uphold its autonomy, foster growth in boxing, and maintain alignment with international standards. The decision to disaffiliate from the PSB underscores a broader push to safeguard the independence of sports federations in Pakistan.
