Saudi Arabia Approves New Pay Scale for Engineering Jobs

The Saudi government has approved a new salary scale for engineering professionals, a move widely praised as a step toward making the field more appealing and rewarding.

Scheduled to take effect on December 31, the new arrangement was endorsed by the Cabinet during a meeting chaired by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Human Resources, the updated pay scale is designed for employees in government agencies who hold engineering roles as defined by the unified Saudi classification of professions. Eligible individuals must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Saudi or other recognized universities.

The revised salary structure represents a significant transformation in the engineering sector, aligning with professional categories such as engineer, associate engineer, professional engineer, and consultant engineer. This framework adheres to the system governing the practice of engineering professions and requires professional accreditation from the Saudi Council of Engineers, the ministry explained.

Although the specific details of the salary scale have not been disclosed, experts anticipate it will foster a more attractive and stimulating work environment for engineers in the government sector while enhancing their professional capabilities. Saudi Minister of Human Resources Ahmed Al Rajhi welcomed the initiative in a post on X, describing it as a measure that will “support and empower engineering personnel in the government sector.”

The related regulations also outline provisions for bonuses, promotions, and job benefits aimed at incentivizing the work environment. However, no immediate data was provided on the number of engineers currently employed in Saudi Arabia’s government sector.
