Use Internet for Important Matters and Limited Time Only, Says Govt Official

Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Division Syed Sajid Mehdi said that Pakistanis should use the internet only for important stuff.

Speaking to a private news channel, the official said citizens should also reduce their time on the internet, which, according to him, would help ease traffic congestion.

He said Pakistan’s internet infrastructure has just 15 percent fiber capacity compared to India’s 45 percent and is overwhelmed by excessive usage.

He further claimed that work is underway to enhance the network, with improvements expected within three to four months. To further clarify his stance, the official blamed slow speeds on population growth and called for disciplined internet usage over unnecessary activities, and reducing excessive use to benefit the system.

The official further rebuffed the recently reported financial losses exceeding $1 million per hour due to internet outages, saying no official complaints about financial losses had been lodged.

The secretary maintained that population pressures and infrastructure limitations are the primary causes of slow internet speeds and urged users to limit online activities to important tasks only.
