Punjab to Raise Exam Passing Marks to 40% by 2026

The Punjab government has announced that the minimum passing marks for exams conducted under all provincial educational boards will be increased to 40%, effective from 2026.

According to directives issued to all Punjab educational boards, students must secure at least 40% marks to pass their exams under the new policy. While the plan was initially set to be implemented this year, final approval from the Punjab Cabinet is still pending.

The Higher Education Department (HED) has already prepared a summary seeking the cabinet’s endorsement of the policy. In addition to raising the passing marks, the department is also set to introduce a revised grading system for exams.

To facilitate these significant changes in the examination framework, the Higher Education Department has initiated formal preparations and is working to ensure the smooth implementation of the updated policy.
