Vivo Y200+ is a Confusing Update Over the Y100+

Vivo has launched its latest smartphone, the Vivo Y200+, in China, adding another member to its ever-growing Yxxx lineup.

Despite boasting some fresh design changes and a louder speaker system, the Vivo Y200+ retains most of its predecessor’s features and compromises on certain aspects, making its launch a bit puzzling.

Here’s a detailed look at what the Vivo Y200+ brings.

Design and Display

The Vivo Y200+ introduces a new rear design that sets it apart visually from the Y100+, giving the device a fresh look. However, in terms of display, it features a 6.68-inch LCD with a 720 x 1608 resolution, which marks a downgrade in sharpness. The display retains a 120 Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth performance for scrolling and animations.

The phone maintains the same dimensions as its predecessor, with a thickness of 7.99 mm, a weight of 199g, and IP64 dust and splash resistance. The Vivo Y200+ is offered in three color options, including Apricot Sea, Midnight Black, and Sky City.

Vivo also claims that the device features speakers that are “300% louder,” offering an improved audio experience.

Internals and Software

Under the hood, the Vivo Y200+ offers 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, which should cater to everyday tasks without issue. The phone runs on Vivo’s custom Origin OS 4.0, but the global model should come with Funtouch OS as always.

While the internals remain serviceable, they don’t bring any significant changes compared to the Y100+, leaving performance largely unchanged.

Camera

The Vivo Y200+ sports a dual-camera setup on the rear, featuring a 50 MP primary sensor and a 2 MP secondary sensor. While this matches the rear camera system of its predecessor, the selfie camera has been downgraded to a 5 MP shooter, compared to the 8 MP on the Y100+. This change may disappoint users who prioritize high-quality selfies and video calls.

Battery and Pricing

The device retains its 6,000 mAh battery, which supports 44W wired charging, ensuring long-lasting battery life and quick charging speeds.

The Vivo Y200+ remains an affordable option, priced at around $150 in China. Its international availability is unclear.
