Punjab to Launch Scholarships and Interest-Free Loans for Students

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has pledged to support outstanding students by providing necessary facilities and scholarships to help them cover their educational expenses.

While addressing the students of Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan on Monday, Maryam Nawaz reassured high-achieving students that they need not worry about financing their education. She emphasized that the government is committed to facilitating their academic journey.

The Chief Minister expressed regret that public resources had not been utilized for the welfare of the people over the past 75 years. She assured the audience that the “Honhaar Scholarship Program” would be expanded incrementally and include international scholarship opportunities in the future.

She revealed plans to distribute laptops to students soon. Highlighting the achievements of female students, Maryam Nawaz shared her delight that 60% of the recipients of the Honhaar Scholarship were women.

Addressing environmental concerns, she emphasized the importance of adopting electric vehicles (e-vehicles) to create a healthier environment in Punjab. She also mentioned that a Chinese company has shown interest in setting up an electric bike manufacturing plant in the province.

In addition to scholarships, the Chief Minister announced that interest-free loans would be made available to deserving students. These loans are aimed at empowering students to start their businesses after completing their studies. She added that loans amounting to over Rs. 100 million would be offered under this initiative.

Furthermore, 30,000 students will be given scholarships with the condition that they must refrain from engaging in any anti-state activities.
