In November 2024, Redmi launched its K80 and K80 Pro smartphones in China. Now, the brand is expected to expand its lineup with the Redmi K80 Ultra later this year.
According to a recent Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), the key specifications of the K80 Ultra may have already surfaced, months before its official announcement.
Redmi K80 Ultra: Key Details
DCS suggests that the Redmi K80 Ultra will feature a flat OLED screen with slim bezels and a 1.5K resolution. It will also incorporate an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for improved security and convenience. The K70 Ultra’s successor will retain its durable design, featuring a metal middle frame and IP68-rated dust and water resistance.
Under the hood, the K80 Ultra will reportedly house the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset, a successor to the Dimensity 9300 Plus that powered the K70 Ultra. The K80 Ultra will come with a significant battery upgrade, rumored to be at least 1000mAh, compared to the 5000mAh capacity of its predecessor.
Based on previous release patterns, Redmi might launch the K80 Ultra around mid-2025.
Dimensity 9400+ Competition
Other major brands are also preparing to release smartphones with the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset. According to the same source, iQOO, Realme, and OnePlus have plans to launch their devices, tentatively named the iQOO Neo 10S Pro, Realme Neo 7 Pro, and OnePlus Ace 5s, respectively, by mid-2025.
The Realme and OnePlus models will share key features, including a 1.5K OLED panel, a sturdy metal middle frame, and robust batteries with capacities of around 7,000mAh or more. However, there will be notable differences in their fingerprint technology. Realme will use an advanced ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, while OnePlus will use a reliable optical fingerprint scanner.
Among the Dimensity 9400 Plus-powered smartphones, the iQOO Neo 10S Pro might take the lead as the first device to debut with the chipset. These leaks hint at a competitive year ahead for high-performance smartphones. With significant upgrades in display, durability, and battery life, the Redmi K80 Ultra and its competitors are shaping up to be key players in the mid-2025 smartphone market.
