Punjab to Launch Wildlife Rescue Force to Protect Endangered Species

The Punjab government has announced the launch of the Chief Minister Wildlife Rescue Force to enhance the province’s capacity to handle wildlife emergencies and promote animal welfare.

Officials from the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department revealed that the project includes the establishment of three advanced Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation Centers (WR&RCs) in Lahore, Khanewal, and Rawalpindi.

These centers will focus on rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing specialized medical care for wild animals, including big cats, birds, reptiles, bears, and pangolins.

A key feature of the initiative is a wildlife helpline integrated with Rescue 1122, enabling citizens to report emergencies quickly. This collaboration ensures a rapid and organized response to wildlife crises.

Additionally, the program introduces “Vets on Wheels,” a mobile veterinary service delivering essential care to animals in remote areas, reducing treatment delays and ensuring timely assistance.

The project emphasizes professional training for rescue teams and encourages collaboration with public and private sectors to boost wildlife conservation efforts. Modern rescue equipment, such as dart guns, will enhance safety during rescues.
