The Foreign Ministry has provided details about Pakistani citizens imprisoned in Saudi Arabia during a parliamentary session.
According to the ministry, 10,279 Pakistanis are currently held in various Saudi prisons. 5,341 are detained in Riyadh and its surrounding cities, while 4,848 are in Jeddah and nearby areas.
Over the past three years, 253 Pakistani prisoners have been released from Saudi jails with the assistance of philanthropists, the ministry revealed.
Official documents highlighted that Pakistani prisoners have been jailed for involvement in 18 different crimes, including border security violations, drug trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering, murder, and smuggling.
Efforts are also underway to repatriate 400 Pakistani prisoners, with relevant details being exchanged between Pakistani and Saudi authorities to facilitate their return.
The ministry emphasized its ongoing efforts to provide support to Pakistani nationals imprisoned abroad and to secure their release wherever possible.
