Islamabad is set to host the fifth edition of its annual marathon on January 26, 2025, bringing together more than 3,000 athletes from Pakistan and abroad. Qasim Naz, the founder of the Islamabad Run with Us community, confirmed the details in a press release on Friday. This highly anticipated event, which has gained international recognition since its launch in 2020, promises an exciting showcase of athleticism and camaraderie.
With a total prize pool of one million rupees, the marathon will feature five distinct categories, accommodating participants of all ages and abilities:
Naz highlighted that these categories are designed to encourage broad participation, making the event inclusive and family-friendly.
The marathon will begin at 9 a.m. at New Iran Enclave, with the route stretching to GT Road before looping back to the starting point. The route has been designed to ensure a scenic yet challenging experience for runners while showcasing the natural beauty of Islamabad.
In a significant step toward innovation, a real-time pitch system will be implemented for athlete tracking. This system will ensure accuracy in determining winners, enhancing the credibility of the event. “Transparency is our top priority, and this technology will guarantee fair competition,” Naz remarked.
Speaking about the broader purpose of the Islamabad Marathon 2025, Naz emphasized its role in promoting Pakistan’s soft image on the global stage. “This event not only highlights the athletic spirit of our people but also showcases the beauty and culture of our country to the global audience,” he said.
To ensure the safety and comfort of participants, the organizers are working closely with the district administration and local police. Medical facilities, hydration stations, and on-route support teams will be available throughout the marathon.
As Islamabad gears up for this landmark event, excitement continues to build among athletes and spectators alike. Stay tuned for further updates as the city prepares to host one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year.
