Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan has expressed his displeasure over the “overly friendly” interactions between Pakistani and Indian cricketers on the field, voicing concerns about the team’s approach in high-stakes encounters.
Moin Khan Questions Players’ Friendly Attitude
Speaking on a local media talk show, Moin Khan discussed the increasing camaraderie between Pakistani and Indian players during matches.
During the discussion, he was asked about Pakistan’s cricketers frequently taking pictures with Indian stars like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, which has sparked debate among fans and former players.
Responding to the question, Moin Khan expressed disappointment, saying he finds it frustrating to see Pakistani players casually interacting with their Indian counterparts.
He recalled a time when Pakistan held a dominant position over India in cricket, but now, according to him, the situation has reversed.
“We once dominated them, but today, they have the upper hand. The same gap we created back then still exists, but in their favor now,” he lamented.
Moin Khan acknowledged that off-field friendships between Pakistani and Indian players have always existed, but he stressed that such cordiality should not extend to the playing field.
The former captain emphasized that Pakistani players unknowingly project a weak mindset when they engage in lighthearted interactions during matches.
“We had good relations with Indian players too, but I never felt the need to check a rival’s bat or have casual chit-chat during a match,” he said. “Our players don’t realize how negatively this affects their mindset and the message it conveys.”
According to Moin, such relaxed behavior gives the opposition a psychological advantage, as rival teams sense a lack of intensity and become more determined to dominate a mentally passive opponent.
“When you start behaving like this, your opponents sense your lack of intensity and come at you even harder,” Moin Khan explained.
Wasim Akram Also Unhappy with the Current Players’ Approach
Moin also revealed that Wasim Akram shares his concerns, expressing frustration over the current generation’s lack of aggression on the field.
“Whenever I’ve held a leadership position, I’ve always advised players to avoid this kind of attitude. Even Wasim Akram has been disappointed with how some of today’s players conduct themselves,” he stated.
The former cricketer noted that in the past, icons like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar never engaged in lighthearted interactions with Indian cricketers during matches.
“You would never see them joking around, checking bats, or taking selfies with Indian players on the field. That’s the kind of competitive mindset we’re missing today,” Moin Khan concluded.
With the 2025 Champions Trophy approaching, where Pakistan and India are set for a high-intensity showdown, Moin’s comments have ignited an ongoing debate about the team’s on-field demeanor and competitive intensity.
