Pakistan Faces Exit From 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers Due to Suspension

Pakistan’s participation in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers is in jeopardy following a recent suspension imposed on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) by FIFA. According to a formal letter issued by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Pakistan’s men’s national team is currently ineligible to participate in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers unless the suspension is lifted by Tuesday, March 4, 2025—a deadline that is just weeks away.

FIFA’s suspension, which took effect on February 6, 2025, means that the PFF has lost its membership rights and can no longer enter international competitions, including the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, until the suspension is reversed. This development casts a shadow over Pakistan’s preparations, as the qualifiers are scheduled to begin on March 25, 2025.

The AFC has given the PFF a strict deadline: if the suspension is not lifted by March 4, 2025—three weeks before the qualifiers commence—Pakistan will be forced to withdraw from the tournament. This leaves the PFF with little time to address the issues at hand, as it must also complete various competition requirements such as team registration and match confirmations.

FIFA’s recent suspension of the PFF is a significant blow to Pakistan’s footballing ambitions. Missing out on the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers would not only affect the team’s competitive future but also impede the further development of the sport within the country. With the AFC deadline looming, all eyes are on the PFF and FIFA to determine whether the suspension will be lifted in time for Pakistan to participate in one of Asia’s premier football competitions.
