Court Fines Bus Company for Overcharging Passengers

A consumer court has imposed a fine on a bus service for charging passengers extra fares during Eid.

During a hearing at the Consumer Protection Court East, the court ruled against the bus service administration, imposing a fine of Rs. 75,000.

The court ordered the bus service to compensate the complainant with Rs. 50,000 and pay Rs. 25,000 for legal expenses. Additionally, the administration must refund the Rs. 600 overcharged from the complainant.

The court directed bus operators to display fare lists at their offices, even during festive seasons, and inform the public in advance if there are any changes in fares.

The complainant stated that in June 2024, during Eid-ul-Adha, he purchased a ticket from Karachi to Khairpur. The standard fare was Rs. 1,600, but he was charged Rs. 2,200.
