OpenAI has been aggressively working on advancing its AI models and launching new tools due to rising competition from DeepSeek. CEO Sam Altman shared insights on DeepSeek’s r1 model and upcoming updates, including Operator, a powerful AI agent designed to automate tasks for users.
Since its announcement, users have been eagerly waiting for a wider rollout. Now, OpenAI has confirmed that Operator is expanding to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in several countries.
OpenAI announced on February 21, 2025, that Operator is now available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in multiple regions, including Australia, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, India, Canada, South Korea, and the UK. However, the company is still working on making it accessible in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.
As per OpenAI’s update, the AI agent will be deployed in most areas where ChatGPT is already accessible.
Operator, first introduced as a research preview in January 2025, is designed to handle various user tasks such as booking tickets, making reservations, and performing other automated functions. The AI assistant is exclusive to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, who pay $200 per month for premium access.
Operator is currently only available through a dedicated web page, requiring users to run it in a separate browser window. However, OpenAI has indicated plans to integrate Operator more seamlessly within ChatGPT in the future.
While OpenAI is making strides with Operator, it faces strong competition from other AI-driven automation tools. Google, Rabbit, and Anthropic are also developing AI agents with similar capabilities, aiming to establish dominance in this rapidly growing sector.
OpenAI’s continued push for AI advancements positions Operator to become a major player in AI automation, potentially transforming how users manage everyday tasks. As the company expands its reach, it will likely announce further updates on availability and functionality soon.
