Apple Intelligence already supports OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but it seems Apple is now actively working on integrating Google’s Gemini into its AI ecosystem. This development was discovered in a backend update pushed alongside the iOS 18.4 beta, revealing “OpenAI” and “Google” as third-party AI model options within Apple Intelligence.
Expected Rollout Timeline
While Apple has not made an official announcement, this backend update on X (Formerly Twitter) strongly suggests that the integration is in progress. The earliest possible release could be in April, aligning with the public rollout of iOS 18.4. However, there is no guarantee, and Apple could decide to delay or even scrap the integration altogether.
In a recent statement, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, alluded to the company’s ambition to add various AI model integrations, notably including Google’s Gemini. Should this initiative come to life, Apple users could soon enjoy more options to choose from while using AI features on their phones.
Expanding to the EU
In a separate official update, Apple confirmed that Apple Intelligence will finally become available in the European Union in April, coinciding with the release of iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4. Additionally, the AI suite will introduce support for more languages, making it accessible to a broader audience.
With Apple gradually embracing AI advancements, the potential integration of Google Gemini could significantly enhance Apple Intelligence, offering users more choices and improved AI functionality.
