Pakistan Football Congress Approves FIFA Mandated Changes

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has taken a significant step toward restoring the country’s footballing future, with the PFF Congress overwhelmingly approving FIFA-mandated amendments by a 23-0 vote. This decision marks a crucial milestone in aligning the federation’s operations with FIFA’s governance standards, ensuring transparency and accountability within the PFF.

The meeting, chaired by Saud Azim Hashimi, President of the PFF and Chairman of the Normalization Committee (NC), was attended by key members of the NC, including Muhammad Shahid Niaz Khokhar and Haris Azmat. “The approval of these amendments is a critical first step towards restoring Pakistan’s footballing future. The next challenge is to work with FIFA to get the ban lifted so that we can confirm our participation in the Asian Cup qualifiers,” a PFF spokesperson commented following the approval.

This development brings the PFF closer to complying with FIFA and AFC regulations. However, the next focus is on lifting the suspension imposed on the PFF, which has prevented Pakistan from participating in major international events, including the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The suspension can only be lifted once these amendments are fully implemented, as outlined in a letter from FIFA’s Council dated February 6, 2025.

The approval of the amendments has been hailed as a vital step toward normalizing football in Pakistan. The PFF is now focused on working with FIFA to ensure that the ongoing suspension is lifted, paving the way for Pakistan’s return to international football and their participation in the highly anticipated Asian Cup qualifiers. If these reforms satisfy FIFA, Pakistan may be able to avoid another dark chapter in its footballing history.
