Rain Threatens Pakistan vs Bangladesh Match in Rawalpindi

The Group A match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, looks all but likely to be abandoned due to rain. Weather reports indicate that Islamabad and its twin city Rawalpindi have experienced sudden weather changes over the past 12 hours, with light rain.

The weather has already impacted the tournament, as Wednesday’s match between Australia and South Africa, also scheduled in Rawalpindi, was abandoned without a toss due to continuous rainfall. The game, which was set to begin at 2:00 PM, was officially called off at 5:10 PM after no improvement in conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, further rainfall is expected on Thursday, raising concerns about the fate of the Pakistan-Bangladesh clash. The forecast suggests worsening conditions, which could lead to delays or even a complete washout, depending on the intensity of the rain.

This match has no significance as it is a “dead rubber” between two sides who have been eliminated from the tournament. The match against Bangladesh is an opportunity for host nation Pakistan to end their campaign on a high note, and test out a few players who were not given a chance to play in the first two matches.

Fans and officials alike are hoping for a break in the weather to allow the match to proceed as planned. However, with the unpredictable nature of the current weather system, the possibility of another abandoned game looms large.
