Sindh Announces Free Electric Scooters for Women; More Double-Decker and Electric Buses for Karachi

The Sindh cabinet has given the green light to buy new buses for Karachi, including double-decker buses and more electric buses. Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon announced this decision during a press conference.

Memon explained that the cabinet also decided to automate anti-narcotics efforts. He noted that while the Prime Minister had promised 180 electric buses from the federal government, no funds have been provided yet for their purchase.

In a bid to support women, the provincial government plans to distribute free pink scooters to those holding a two-wheeler license.

Additionally, a monthly lottery will offer electric bikes to eligible women, including students and working professionals. Memon added that women who are not yet comfortable riding a bike will receive training from lady instructors. Furthermore, any woman who receives an electric bike will be prohibited from selling it for seven years.

He also defended the bus design, saying that both he and the Chief Minister, who are engineers, had raised concerns about it. Their objections were later proven correct, ensuring that the final design meets proper standards.
