HMD has announced a new pair of wireless earbuds, the Amped Buds, featuring a Qi2-compatible charging case that doubles as a backup phone battery. With a 1,600mAh capacity, the case provides enough power to extend a phone’s battery life till the end of the day.
The slim, 14 mm-thick case offers portability and convenience. The buds feature a hinge mechanism that allows them to fit directly into the case for charging. They are also spring-loaded, providing a satisfying pop when inserting or removing them. When taken out, the stems fold forward to be worn like standard earbuds.
The Amped Buds case supports Qi2 wireless charging, allowing it to attach to Qi2 and MagSafe-compatible phones for charging magnetically. It also works with magnetic phone cases or any wireless charging-enabled phone, though non-Qi2 devices won’t benefit from the magnetic connection. The buds include a USB-C port for wired charging.
HMD claims the case can charge the earbuds more than ten times, providing up to 95 hours of total music playback. The Amped Buds also feature active noise cancellation (ANC) and environmental noise cancellation (ENC) for enhanced audio clarity.
The case carries an IPX4 rating for dust resistance, while the earbuds have an IP54 rating for splash resistance.
Available in cyan, black, and pink, the Amped Buds and their matching case blend functionality with style. The biggest downside of these earbuds is their price, coming in at €199, placing them next to other high-end earbuds. HMD’s Amped Buds will be available in April in Europe.
