Bangladesh’s cricket community was left in shock after former captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a reported heart attack on Monday morning while playing in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. The veteran cricketer, who was representing Mohammedan Sporting Club in a match against Shinepukur Cricket Club, began experiencing chest discomfort during the first innings, shortly after the toss.
Immediate medical attention was sought, and plans were initially made to airlift Tamim Iqbal to Dhaka for advanced treatment. However, due to logistical challenges, the plan was abandoned. Instead, Tamim was rushed to Fazilatunnesa Hospital in Savar, near Dhaka, where doctors confirmed that he had suffered a serious cardiac episode.
BCB’s chief physician, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, explained that initial tests suggested minor heart issues, but Tamim Iqbal’s condition worsened as he was being moved towards the helipad for transport. This led to his immediate return to the hospital for further treatment. Doctors later confirmed that Tamim had suffered a significant heart attack.
Dr. Chowdhury reassured that medical teams are closely monitoring Tamim Iqbal’s condition and are doing everything they can to support his recovery. This health scare has shaken the Bangladesh cricket fraternity, as Tamim has been an iconic figure in the national team for more than a decade.
According to reports, Tamim Iqbal’s family has been informed and is en route to the hospital. The incident has raised deep concerns among fans and fellow cricketers, with the entire cricketing community hoping for his swift recovery.
Tamim Iqbal, one of Bangladesh’s most successful batters, recently announced his retirement once gain after an illustrious 15-year career during which he scored 15,249 runs across all formats for the Tigers.
