The Sindh government has announced an extended holiday period for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, granting government employees multiple days off, while essential departments will remain operational.
According to an official notification issued on Tuesday, Eid holidays in Sindh will be observed from March 31 to April 2, following the federal government’s schedule. Additionally, April 4 has been declared a public holiday to honor the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
With weekends falling on March 29-30 and April 5-6, many public sector offices will remain closed for a total of eight days.
Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated across Pakistan on Monday, March 31, as the Shawwal crescent is likely to be visible on the evening of March 30, provided weather conditions allow.
Khalid Ijaz Mufti, Secretary General of the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, stated that the new moon will be born on March 29 at 3:58 PM Pakistan time. By sunset on March 30, the moon’s age will exceed 26 hours, making it visible to the naked eye.
Mufti further explained that the moon needs to be at least 18 hours old at sunset for visibility, a condition that will be met easily. Additionally, the time gap between sunset and moonset will surpass the required 40 minutes across multiple cities, increasing the likelihood of sighting.
