Punjab Approves New Evaluation Criteria for Matric and Inter

The Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen has officially approved a 10-point grading system for matriculation and intermediate examinations, as reported by 24NewsHD TV on Wednesday.

Under this new system, students’ performance will be assessed based on grades and GPA instead of numerical marks.

The term “Unsatisfactory” will replace “Fail,” and the passing percentage will be increased from 33% to 40%.

The system will be introduced in phases:

  • In the first phase, students of classes 9 and 11 will receive grades instead of marks starting in 2026.

  • In the second phase, the system will extend to classes 10 and 12 from 2027.

According to board officials, the purpose of this change is to shift the focus from the competition for marks to enhancing students’ academic performance.
