Google AI Can Now Help You Plan Vacations as Easily as Taking a Screenshot

Google is expanding its suite of travel tools across Maps, Search, and Hotels, with new AI-driven features designed to simplify vacation planning. According to a report by 9to5Google, the updates aim to make organizing trips more seamless by integrating Gemini-powered capabilities into familiar Google services.

Google Maps Gains Screenshot Recognition

One of the most anticipated updates is coming to the Google Maps app. A new screenshot-based feature will allow Maps to detect locations mentioned in images saved on a user’s device. Instead of manually entering place names from saved travel inspiration, Maps will use Gemini to identify locations from visible text in screenshots and show them on the map. Users will then be able to review, save, and organize these places into shareable lists.

This feature, initially rolling out to iOS users in the US (in English), does not rely on image recognition but rather reads the text embedded in screenshots. Android support is expected to follow soon.

AI Overviews Expand Travel Capabilities in Search

Google Search is also getting more travel functionality. AI Overviews can now build itineraries not just for cities but for entire countries and regions. This allows users to ask queries like “create a vacation itinerary for Italy with a focus on food” and get personalized trip suggestions that include reviews, photos, maps, and the ability to save locations or export the itinerary to Docs or Gmail. This update is available in the US on both desktop and mobile.

Google Lens Adds More Languages

The AI Overview feature within Google Lens, which analyzes the environment through a user’s camera, will soon support six additional languages: Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. This move aims to make the feature more accessible for international travelers.

Global Hotel Price Tracking Now Live

Google’s hotel search tool is also getting smarter. Like Google Flights, hotel listings will now allow users to track price drops for specific hotels, destinations, and travel dates. Once users enable the tracking toggle, they will receive email alerts when prices fall significantly. The feature is now available globally on both desktop and mobile platforms.

These AI-powered upgrades reflect Google’s push to centralize trip planning within its ecosystem, making it easier for users to gather, organize, and act on travel information without relying on multiple apps or services.
