As temperatures continue to climb, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has urged departments across the province to step up preparations for the expected heatwave.
According to the PDMA, mercury levels could soar 4 to 7°C above normal this month, with southern Punjab facing the highest risk of extreme heat. In response, Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed deputy commissioners to ensure protective measures are in place in public areas.
The School Education Department has suspended all outdoor activities for children. In Lahore, schools have been advised to display banners with safety tips at their entrances to spread awareness.
Farmers have been warned about possible effects of heat on crops, while public awareness campaigns are being planned to guide them. The local government has also been asked to ensure the supply of drinking water at public spaces.
Livestock markets are being prioritised as well, with orders for round-the-clock services at veterinary centres and proper water facilities at animal markets.
Hospitals will set up special counters to treat heat-related cases efficiently. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors during the hottest hours, drink water regularly, and wear head coverings if stepping outside becomes necessary.
