Chinese Smartphones to Standardize Much Bigger Batteries by the End of 2025

As the arms race to create higher mAh batteries continues, we are witnessing new innovations in the mobile industry.

According to recent rumors from China, the trend of increasing battery size is expected to continue into the latter half of 2025. By the end of the year, flagship devices powered by the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9500 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipsets are expected to feature a baseline battery capacity of 7,000 mAh. This is a welcome jump from last year’s typical 6,000 mAh batteries and signals a clear shift toward longer-lasting smartphone

Batteries containing silicon have become a notable trend in flagship smartphones, particularly from Chinese manufacturers. This new technology has led to a significant improvement in battery density, allowing for larger capacities without increasing the thickness of the device.

Going Further Beyond

Some of the premium models will even push the envelope further, with batteries reaching 7,500 mAh. Mid-range smartphones are not left behind either, with some devices expected to feature batteries as large as 8,000 mAh. Honor, for instance, is rumored to launch a phone with a massive 8,000mAh battery in the coming week.

Charging Speeds to Match

As battery capacity grows, so will the charging speeds. The flagship devices expected in late 2025 will support 100W wired charging and wireless charging speeds between 50W and 80W. This means users will experience significantly reduced charging times despite the larger battery capacities.

While 100W wired charging is nothing new, it is expected to become more common in smartphones going forward.

The Silicon Battery Divide

While these advancements are exciting, they appear to be limited to Chinese smartphone manufacturers for now. Major players like Samsung, Apple, and Google have yet to adopt silicon-based batteries in their devices, leaving them behind in this rapidly advancing race. Hence, it remains to be seen if we will get to see these battery upgrades in Galaxy or Pixel-branded phones anytime soon.
