The feature allows creators to lock their Reels behind a code that viewers can unlock by deciphering a clue. For instance, a creator might post a hint like “my favorite food,” and only those familiar with the creator’s preferences can guess the correct answer.

An example from Instagram’s Design account illustrated how this feature works: a Reel was locked with the clue “1st # in the caption,” which referred to the first hashtag used in the caption—“Threads.” Viewers who correctly identified the hashtag were able to access a special Reel announcing the Design account’s launch on Threads.
