Pakistan and Belarus have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on Friday.
Speaking at a press briefing afterward, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s interest in benefiting from Belarus’s expertise in the manufacturing of agricultural and mining machinery.
Highlighting Pakistan’s predominantly agrarian economy—with 65% of the population living in rural areas—he emphasized the potential for joint ventures between companies from both countries to produce agricultural equipment in Pakistan, calling it a mutually beneficial opportunity.
He also expressed a desire to adopt Belarus’s practices to improve per-acre agricultural yield in Pakistan.
The prime minister underscored the country’s vast mineral resources, valued in the trillions of dollars, and called for collaboration in this area, as well as in defence, textiles, and public transport.
PM Sharif extended gratitude to Belarus for its decision to invite around 150,000 young and highly skilled Pakistani workers. He assured that the workforce to be deployed would be properly trained and certified.
Earlier, both sides signed a series of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs), covering cooperation in interior affairs, defence, environmental protection, trade, and economic development.
