Serena Hotel Catches Fire Before PSL Teams Could Leave for Stadium

A fire broke out on the sixth floor of the Serena Hotel in Islamabad on Friday afternoon, where foreign players from Pakistan Super League (PSL X) teams are currently staying. The blaze, which sent thick smoke billowing into the sky, raised immediate concerns in the capital’s high-security zone, home to the luxury hotel frequented by diplomats and dignitaries.

The district administration confirmed the fire originated on the top floor of the renowned hotel. Eight fire tenders from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) rushed to the scene, initiating a rigorous operation to extinguish the flames. An X post captured smoke rising near the hotel, initially captioned “Islamabad Serena Hotel Under fire,” though officials clarified this was a structural fire, not an attack.

No injuries have been reported, but guests, including PSL players, and staff were evacuated as a precaution. The surrounding area was cordoned off, disrupting traffic.

The CDA continues its efforts to douse the fire, with the cause still under investigation. Authorities are expected to provide further updates, as safety concerns loom over one of Islamabad’s most iconic hotels during a high-profile cricket tournament.
