WhatsApp has introduced a series of new updates aimed at improving the functionality and user experience across chats, calls, and channels. The new features include real-time group chat indicators, enhanced video call quality, advanced channel tools, and iPhone-specific enhancements, such as a built-in document scanner and app integration.
WhatsApp Chat Updates
One of the updates is the introduction of a real-time “Online” indicator in group chats. This shows the number of active participants beneath the group name, offering more visibility and interaction within chats. Additionally, users can now customize notifications with the new “Notify for” setting, allowing them to choose between receiving alerts for “All” messages or just for @mentions, replies, and messages from saved contacts.
Furthermore, WhatsApp has expanded its event feature to one-on-one conversations. Users can RSVP to events as “maybe,” invite plus-ones, set event end times, and pin important details. Another exciting feature is tappable reactions, which allow users to respond quickly to messages with existing emoji reactions.
Connection Updates for Better Calling
WhatsApp has improved video calling with a more reliable connection system. The platform’s updated routing technology finds the best connection path, reducing freezing and dropped calls. WhatsApp has also optimized bandwidth detection to upgrade to HD video quality when the internet connection allows it.
iPhone users can enjoy a new pinch-to-zoom feature during video calls, offering a flexible viewing experience. Additionally, adding participants to ongoing calls is now easier, as users can directly add them from chat threads.
New Channel Tools
For WhatsApp Channels, admins now have enhanced tools for content creation and audience engagement. Channel admins can record and share short video notes of up to 60 seconds. Voice message transcripts are also available, allowing users to read updates when they can’t listen to voice notes. To boost channel discovery and growth, admins can now generate unique QR codes for their channels, making it easier for new subscribers to join.
iPhone-Specific Improvements
iPhone users benefit from several updates designed specifically for their devices. A built-in document scanner is now accessible through the attachment menu under “Scan Document,” allowing users to scan, crop, and send documents directly within the app.
Additionally, iPhone users can set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling app by navigating to Settings > Default Apps.
Make sure to keep your WhatsApp up to date to get these features as soon as they are released.
