Here’s When Double-Decker and Electric Buses Will Start Operating in Karachi

Karachi will soon see the arrival of five double-decker buses and 34 electric buses as part of the Sindh government’s expansion of the Peoples Bus Service (PBS). The first batch is expected in June, with another 100 buses set to follow later in the month.

Sindh’s Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, confirmed that the necessary formalities for importing the buses are nearly complete. The initiative aims to provide affordable, eco-friendly, and reliable public transport options for Karachi residents.

This project is part of a broader effort to modernise the city’s transport system, incorporating the latest technology to improve passenger convenience. The government also plans to cancel the registration of defective and unsafe commercial vehicles currently operating in the city.

Additionally, a new bus route, utilising Green Line and Orange Line vehicles, will be launched next week to further enhance the transport network. The transport department is also set to introduce a Pink EV Scooter scheme for women, which will require applicants to have a valid driving licence.

With these measures, the Sindh government aims to improve the quality of public transportation, offering sustainable solutions while meeting the growing demands of Karachi’s population.
